Concept Maps and Visual Theory of Writing Exercises

On one the first days of class students were asked to draw out a map of our Theory of Writing. This was created on what I considered were essential elements to "good writing".

This is a word cloud that was created in response to my definition of "good writing". The image displays the words used more often are more prominent.

This was the second map I created for my Theory of Writing. There are many connections and relationships between a lot of terms and how they function. What started out like a web, turned into a more brain-like picture which I think is cool and pretty representative of writing. Everything is interrelated with some more specialized areas and functions, just like the parts of a brain.

A computerized construction of my theory of writing. It's more organized due to the flexibility of editing on a computer, but allowed for less connections between terms to be made.

Created using various mediums such as magazines cutouts, markers, highlighters, and pens, on paper.

My final and last Theory of Writing map is a much more simplified and less wordy portrayal of the process of writing. It resembles more of a flow chart containing the most important components of writing as a whole. Here, i concentrated on the big picture elements as opposed to the minor subcategories related to writing.
